We Made the (Giving) List!

As you know, the Bay Area is home to thousands of nonprofits. The Giving List team consulted with leaders across philanthropy, financial services and philanthropic advising to determine which organizations should be highlighted - and we are so excited to have made the list!

We’d love for you to check out our Giving List spread (find it here). It tells the story of our current work, and includes inspiring quotes from clients and supporters alike. In addition to the web version, we have 25 print copies of the Giving List to share with our supporters. If you would like us to send you a print version, please email emily@helpamotherout.org with your name and mailing address.

In the spirit of giving, we also wanted to share Help a Mother Out’s 2nd annual Giving Guide! Below, you will find a collection of Bay Area nonprofits that are near and dear to our staff member’s hearts. If you have resources to spare and are looking for a place to share them, read on for some inspiration!

Lisa Truong, Founder, and Executive Director, supports VETS (Veterans Exploring Treatment Options), a national organization dedicated to ending the veteran suicide epidemic by providing resources, research, and advocacy for U.S. military veterans seeking psychedelic-assisted therapies for traumatic brain injury (TBI), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), addiction, and other health conditions. This cause is close to Lisa's heart because she believes all veterans deserve access to life-changing mental health treatments.

Emily, HAMO’s Chief of Staff and Board Liaison, supports Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in San Francisco. Senior dogs land in shelters for a variety of reasons, and all too often they get overlooked. Having recently lost he own senior pooch, Emily supports Muttville's belief that all dogs deserve love and no dog should spend his final years in an overcrowded shelter - they have so much joy and love left to give!

Kristen, HAMO's Program Director, supports Conard House In San Francisco. Conard House specializes in Supportive Housing and Mental Health Services. They offer supportive housing to more than 700 people in San Francisco. In the last two years, Conard House has piloted an on-site food kiosk to combat food insecurity with fresh meals, food and vouchers, and a pet support program so that 80 companion animals can bring comfort to clients who are then assisted with access to pet supplies, pet food, training and veterinary care.

Tennema, HAMO's Senior Program Coordinator, supports the Oakland-based organization Root & Rebound. Root & Rebound helps to support individuals navigating reentry and reduce the harms perpetuated by mass incarceration. This organization is special to Tennema as it works with individuals to fight for racial and gender equity, justice, and collective liberation.

Elizabeth, HAMO's Community Engagement Coordinator, supports RJOY in Oakland. This organization provides resources and safe spaces for young men and women in the Oakland community focusing on restorative justice circles and giving the youth a chance to feel seen and heard. Having experienced and witnessed the effects of the school-to-prison pipeline on youth of color, Elizabeth supports their deep-rooted restorative justice and trauma healing practices. It's so wonderful to witness the growth and healing in our community.

Between the Giving List and our Giving Guide, we hope you find some inspiration. Wishing you and yours a safe and joyful holiday season!

Season’s wishes,

Emily Knight

Cheif of Staff and Board Liaison
